CHDR Health Disparities Research Working Group Welcomes Dr. Jason Moody

May 23 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm CDT

Associations between Neighborhood-Level Disadvantage and In Vivo Markers of Neurodegeneration Across the Alzheimer’s Disease Continuum

CHDR’s Health Disparities Research Working Group welcomes Jason Moody, PhD on May 23, 2024, from 2:00–3:00 p.m. CDT.

About this talk: Residence in highly socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods has recently been associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) neuropathology at autopsy, cognitive decline, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) markers of volumetric brain atrophy in cognitively unimpaired adults. Dr. Jason Moody will present preliminary results from current work which investigates associations between neighborhood-level disadvantage, diffusion MRI (DWI) markers of microstructural neurodegeneration, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers of senile plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and AD-related neurodegeneration across the AD continuum.

Jason is a postdoctoral research fellow in Dr. Barbara Bendlin’s lab within the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jason’s research uses quantitative MRI and fluid biomarkers to characterize neurodegeneration in AD as well as identify modifiable risk factors for pathological aging. Jason is particularly interested in metrics that can be used for the early detection of AD pathophysiology and the early identification of individuals at risk for developing AD dementia. Jason is currently assessing the relationships between in vivo neuroimaging measures of brain microstructure, age, cognition, fluid biomarkers, clinical diagnosis, and potential social and economic risk factors for AD in hundreds of aging adults.
