Tobey has a Bachelor of Arts in physics and a Master of Science and PhD in medical physics with a focus on PET neuroimaging. Dr. Betthauser is the Director of Neuroimaging Analytics for CHDR. His lab focuses on developing, validating, and implementing methods to measure and model pathological processes underlying neurodegenerative disease and when they begin relative to the onset of clinical symptoms. Dr. Betthauser is particularly interested in understanding the extent to which social determinants of health affect biomarker and dementia trajectories that might explain disparities in dementia risk.

Tobey has considerable experience with the development, validation, and application of positron emission tomography (PET) imaging tracers in the context of aging and dementia research, including some of the first human studies evaluating tau PET tracers.
