Dr. Kind’s election to AAP recognizes her field-transforming contributions to health disparities and Alzheimer’s disease research.
The UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR) is thrilled to announce the election of center director and Associate Dean for Social Health Sciences and Programs Amy Kind, MD, PhD to the Association of American Physicians (AAP).
Established in 1885, AAP is an honorary medical society of America’s leading physician scientists who exemplify the pinnacle of pioneering and enduring contributions to improve health. Election to AAP is a tremendous honor, extended by nomination to a maximum of seventy individuals per year and offered only to physicians with outstanding credentials in basic or translational biomedical research. AAP’s membership includes numerous Nobel laureates and Lasker Award recipients, as well as over 300 members of the US National Academy of Sciences and more than 400 members of the US National Academy of Medicine. Collectively, members of AAP represent the highest degree of excellence in physician-led research across all fields of science related to medicine and health.
Dr. Kind’s election to AAP recognizes her field-transforming accomplishments in research on mechanistic health disparities and Alzheimer’s disease. These include her trailblazing study of the social exposome—the sum of social and environmental exposures people experience during their lifetimes—as well as the development and maintenance of tools to democratize exposomal data, namely the CHDR-housed Area Deprivation Index (ADI) and Neighborhood Atlas®.
In addition to her election, Dr. Kind was the sole new member selected to deliver a presentation at AAP’s annual meeting, which will take place in late April 2025.
