Milwaukee reaches milestone of 10,000 lead service lines replaced
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
The City of Milwaukee has replaced 10,000 lead service lines that connect water mains to properties across the city, officials announced.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson called the milestone “meaningful” in a May 13 press conference, saying it was a “step towards our greater goal, which is ensuring that no child in Milwaukee is at risk of lead exposure through drinking water.”
CHDR’s Area Deprivation Index (ADI)—which allows for rankings of neighborhoods by socioeconomic disadvantage in a region of interest—serves as the cornerstone of Milwaukee Water Works’ lead service line replacement prioritization plan, allowing the city to identify and prioritize neighborhoods in greatest need of lead service line replacement, accelerating the timeline to address one of the city’s urgent health inequities.
